Colocation FAQ's
What is Co-Location?
It is the provision of space, bandwidth, power and a secure location. By collocating a server within a data centre you gain access to a super fast internet connection within a secure, managed environment. We ensure your server is available 24/7 by ensuring excellent connectivity and providing monitoring tools that ensure any server issues are immediately detected.
So what if I don't have a server?
If you do not provide your own server you can lease or buy a server from OOSHA. The server will be sourced and configured to your exact requirements.
What do you mean by U's?
A "U" refers to a "unit" of space. Rack Space in data centres is limited so servers are usually "rack-optimised", meaning they're wide, deep but not very tall. A "U" is 1.75 inches high. A rack-optimised server will have a height, quoted in U's, usually between 1 and 4. Space in data acentres is therefore quoted in U’s, i.e. numbers of servers.
So do you not co-locate tower servers?
Tower-based servers, are not designed for use in a data centre. Their size and shape means that they do not lend themselves to utilising space efficiently, therefore we do not house them.
Does the monthly bandwidth allocation cover traffic in or out?
The monthly bandwidth allowance covers both inbound and outbound data.
What about Backups?
Customers have the option of hardware backups, NAS storage options and offsite FTP backups.
How Can I Gain access to my server?
If your server is hosted in a shared rack, we have to accompany you when you wish to physically access your server, to safeguard other customers' equipment.
Am I able to reboot my server remotely?
For those customers wishing to have the ability to reboot remotely we can provide a remote reboot witch port which allows you to power-cycle your server from the web.
